Special Olympics

So, a couple of weeks ago Dustin and I are watching another amzing night of the Olympics and after sitting still for hours and watching the men's gymnastics Dustin explodes out of his man recliner and starts bouncing around the room. He then states that we are going to have a home olympics. So I ask what event and who are the participants. Well, obviously, we are to be the participants and not so sure of the event. So I suggest the only gymnastic event that I ever could do- a head stand! Dustin has never done one before, so I proceed to give him headstand lessons. Mind you, its nearly midnight now! So after several attempts, he finnally manages to pull one off. Yay! Now its bed time. Not so quick, he says. Its time for the run for the gold. The boy then challenges his poor OLD mother to a headstand standoff- at Midnight!! Well, being the person I am, I cant ever resist a challenge. not even at midnight and 18 year old -vs- 40 something challenge. I know I am going to hurt myself, and I havent done a headstand for many years. What am I thinking? But when he pulled out an actual Gold medal, and dangles in front of my nose and told me it was for the Gold... What can I say, there I was on my head at midnight trying to win a gold medal from an 18 year old athlete. Then he says -who's going to be the judge? the cats were indifferent (a bit curios tho I am sure). So Dustin grabs the camera and decides that we will take pictures of each other and then compare the photos to see who preforms the best headstand. So after several attempts to get good photos and a lot of silliness the contest ends, photos compared and Dustin declares his mother the winner by 1 100th of a point. Yay! I win!! I feel special!

(and NO, I am not going to post a picture of me doing a headstand at midnight in my PJ's!)

correction

Ok- I dont know why this is so important, but I need to make a correction. last night Kevin read my blog and couldn't believe that I lied about the age of the mower. It is not that old and we have gone thru several mowers over the years. So there- now you know that I was wrong about the age of the mower.

Now for another picture- my house! It is currently not cold or snowy and we generally don't get much snow, but I really like this picture and I love snow! We are painting the house right now and it will soon be Khaki with Hunter Green trim. It has been this grey and burgandy for almost 20 years. This coming January will make 20 years.

Of Mice and Mowers...

So! here is a picture of my clan (not including the four legged children). This was taken last Chrismas at one of the more "memorable" christmas's. If you were there you would remember what I mean by "memorable"! That little adventure consisted of moving two apartments, one big fight, a couple of mice, and several blizzards and the christmas tree impaling episode. There are more parts to it than that, but those mentioned were the highlights of the trip. (forgot Vail and smuggling in the mice!)
In this picture is Ben and Kortney Nelson (couple on the left) Kendra and Nathan (couple on the right) Dustin (center back) and Kevin and I (center).
I seem to like to dwell on my family- and I do because I am the mom! But I guess at this moment I will try to focus on what someone might find interesting to read about. I got a new lawn mower last night? it is really nice and shiney and green! Ok- not so interesting, but in a normal sense of way- exciting! considering the last one was bought nearly 17 years ago at wal-mart. Dustin finally managed to kill it after many years of trying. This time he ran over the leg of the trampoline and bent the shaft and broke the motor base. He did a passable (barely) impression of regret at the death of the old mower. I thought about giving him a hard time about it, but really- that old thing was ready to be put out of its misery! I gave Dustin the happy news that we had gotten a replacement and the new mower was all gassed up and ready to get to today. I dont know why he didn't get so excited?

Getting with the program!

I have decided to joion the younger generation and overcome my old people fear that anything you put on the web will be used to steal your identity. My mother will have a cow to know that I even mention her on the web where anyone can read about my life. My life is none too exciting, but i really enjoy catching up and feeling like i am a part of others lives, and figured that perhaps others may like to know what is goiong on in my world. If not, then you wont be reading this, and if you are reading this- I have just proved my point!!
I keep busy with my job mostly and have daily adventures dealing with college students as the student services at OTC in southwest Missouri. Kevin (husband) travels alot and is home one select weekends. Dustin (son) still lives at home with me and will be going on a mission in less than a year. My girls -Kortney and Kendra live in Idaho. they are stories in themselves (see Kortney's blog)
Currently Dustin and I have been keeping busy after work watching the olympics. Phelps is our favorite. I have 3 cats that pretend that they are my children when the house is empty. and the big news is that I have a Granddaughter due in October and I am getting a vacation then. so that is about the extent of my life for now. I will post more when things slow down for me.
